Clearly at hand

Our main business is not to see what lies dimly in the distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand.

~ Thomas Carlyle

Worthy Purpose

Many persons have the wrong idea
about what constitutes true happiness.
It is not attained through self-gratification
but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

~ Helen Keller

Courage

Courage doesn’t always roar.
Sometimes courage is the little voice
at the end of the day that says . . .
I’ll try again tomorrow.

Angel Wings

Angel Wings

Today I stumbled,
And once again,
Was lifted by
An unseen hand.

What comfort and joy,
That knowledge brings,
For I hear the whisper
Of heavenly angel wings.

The guardian angels
God sends to all
To bear us up,
When we fall.

Unseen hands, gently guide,
Through every storm and strife,
Gentle nudges, sent from God,
To guide us through this life.

Trust in Him, My Friend,
And you will hear
The whisper of angel wings
As they hover near.

God sees your future with perfect clarity

From the world’s point of view the future seems unclear, uncertain, and unstable.

When it comes to your future, God has a different point of view.  God sees your future with perfect clarity, He knows your future with absolute certainty, and He is directing your future toward a glorious destiny.

How can you be assured of the future God has for you?  You can be assured because God is already there, because He is preparing the way ahead of you, and because He will take you by the hand lead you into His plans for your future.

You can trust Him with your future because He is wise and will not make a mistake; He is all-knowing and will not lose His way; He is good and will not bring you harm.

God does not ask you to plan your future, but He does ask you to trust Him and follow His plan.  Trusting His plan will keep you from being worried, fearful, or anxious about the future.  Your future is as bright as the promises of God.

As you think about your future, let your faith embrace these bright promises of God:

“God’s way is perfect.  All the LORD’s promises prove true.” II Samuel 22:31 NLT

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.  Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.  I will advise you and watch over you.”” Psalm 32:8 NLT

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD.  “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:12 NLT

When Will Russia Invade Israel?

by Phillip Goodman
There is a prophecy held in limbo for 2600 years waiting to explode upon the world stage in our generation. Ezekiel 38 & 39 tells of a massive invasion upon an unsuspecting Israel in the “last days.” The invaders will include a host of Islamic countries led by Russia. But they will not succeed. Scripture tells us that this evil coalition of military might will be destroyed by God Himself “upon the mountains of Israel.” And the world will take note! “And the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.” (Ezekiel 39:7)
The Time Factors
How do we know that the Russian invasion is scheduled to occur early in the lineup of prophetic events to come? Several time-indicators lead us to that conclusion.
1. Since the Ezekiel invasion precipitates a spiritual reawakening in Israel to her true God, it cannot be the Gog and Magog invasion that occurs at the end of the 1000-year reign of Christ (Rev. 20:6-9). Why? Because throughout the 1000 years Israel will already know God, “from the least of them to the greatest of them,” and will do so universally “as the waters cover the sea.” (Jer. 31:34;Isa. 11:9)
2. Nor can the invasion occur at the beginning of the kingdom age. The Russian coalition is heavily armed for war. Yet Micah 4:3 says that the Millennial Kingdom will be free of war and the weapons of war. Also, no ungodly people are allowed to enter the kingdom, but only those who are born again. (John 3:3)
3. The attack cannot take place in conjunction with the war of Armageddon because Ezekiel 38:8-14 says it occurs when Israel is in a time of peace and safety, just the opposite of Armageddon!
4. The invasion cannot occur at the middle of the tribulation because at that time the Jews are preserved as they flee outside the land from a successful invader, the Antichrist. (Rev. 12) But the Russian invasion tells of the Jews being preserved inside the land because of God’s direct intervention against an unsuccessful invader. Again, just the opposite!
Early In The Schedule of Prophetic Events
It is through this process of elimination, using key timing indicators from the passage, that it becomes apparent that the Russian-Islamic invasion of Israel must come at or before the start of the tribulation. That means it could happen at any time.

Today there exists for the first time ever in our world the exact nations, primed and ready in the exact political and military positions, to fulfill this ominous prophecy. Russia (“Magog”), armed to the hilt with nuclear weapons, along with militant Islamic states such as those named in Ezekiel 38:5-6 (Iran, Libya, Turkey, Ethiopia, etc.), are ready for the next campaign of terror.
But here is the end result: “And it will come about on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” declares the Lord God, “that My fury will mount up in My anger… and I shall call for a sword against him [Russia & allies] on all My mountains [God calls Israel “My” land]… and with pestilence and with blood I shall enter into judgment with him… And I shall magnify Myself, sanctify Myself, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the Lord.” (Ezekiel 38:18-23)

UN vote on Palestine will lead to war

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 | Ryan Jones

The result of the Palestinian Authority’s bid to win international recognition for a Palestinian state at the UN in September is likely to be war with Israel.

That according to a survey of Palestinian Arabs conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Opinion this week.

While most Palestinians do not believe the motion on an independent Palestinian state will pass in both the General Assembly and the Security Council, if it does, they have very specific and violent ideas about what should happen next.

If the UN recognizes Palestine, 76 percent of Palestinian Arabs said their security forces must immediately exert control over all of Judea, Samaria and the eastern half of Jerusalem, even at the risk of open warfare with the Israeli army.

They also want Palestinian forces to seize control of the Allenby Bridge crossing into neighboring Jordan.

Report: Israel threatens to assassinate Syria’s Assad

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 | Ryan Jones

Israel has threatened to assassinate Syrian leader Bashar Assad if he instigates or sanctions any kind of attack on the Jewish state, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida reported on Tuesday.

The threat was reportedly conveyed to Assad via Turkey.

According to the newspaper, Israeli intelligence has become concerned over unusual troop and missile deployments in Syria, movements that could signal an imminent attack on the Jewish state.

Israeli experts have speculated that Assad could attack Israel in order to divert attention from his security forces’ brutal and bloody crackdown on pro-democracy activsts in Syria. Or, Assad could turn to his Hizballah allies in Lebanon to do his dirty work.

Either way, Israel will hold Assad personally responsible.

There is also concern that if Assad sees his regime falling, he could launch one final assault on Israel to secure a lasting legacy for himself.

Pouring Out

“Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”

Matthew 4:4, NASB

Trust God’s Word. Don’t trust your emotions. Don’t trust your opinions. Don’t even trust your friends . . .

Jesus told Satan, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” The verb proceeds is literally “pouring out.” Its tense suggests that God is constantly and aggressively communicating with the world through his Word. God is speaking still!

Not the Same

“I will pour out my Spirit on all kinds of people.”

Acts 2:17

On the surface they appear no different. Peter is still brazen. Nathanael is still reflective. Philip is still calculating.

They look the same. But they aren’t . . .

In them dwells a fire not found on earth. Christ has taught them. The Father has forgiven them. The Spirit indwells them. They are not the same. And because they are different, so is the world.

Max Lucado

What hope do I have to face evil?

God will guard you from the evil one

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord. He was seated on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. Hovering around him were mighty seraphim, each with six wings.…In a great chorus they sang, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty! The whole earth is filled with his glory!”

Isaiah 6:1-4 NLT

Lead on, O King eternal,
Till sin’s fierce war shall cease,
And holiness shall whisper
The sweet amen of peace.
For not with swords’ loud clashing,
Nor roll of stirring drums,
With deeds of love and mercy
The heavenly kingdom comes.

Ernest Warburton Shurtleff

The day of march has come

In 1887, Ernest Shurtleff was about to graduate from Andover Seminary. Ernest wrote a hymn for the entire graduating class to sing. He told his fellow seminarians, “We’ve been spending days of preparation here at seminary. Now the day of march has come, and we must go out to follow the leadership of the King of kings, to conquer the world under His banner.”

Thus, “Lead On, O King Eternal” was written for a seminary graduating class. Our commencements are not always so dramatic, but there is no reason our eternal King cannot open a new door for us today. We can step out and march under His banner, “not with fears, for gladness breaks like morning where’er thy face appears.”

Lead on, O King eternal,
The day of march has come
Henceforth in fields of conquest
They tents shall be our home.

Through days of preparation
Thy grace has made us strong,
And now, O King eternal,
We lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King eternal,
Till sin’s fierce war shall cease.
And holiness shall whisper
The sweet amen of peace.

For not with swords loud clashing,
Nor roll of stirring drums,
With deeds of love and mercy,
The heavenly kingdom comes.

Lead on, O King eternal,
We follow, not with fears.
For gladness breaks like morning
Where’er Thy face appears.

Thy cross is lifted o’er us;
We journey in it’s light.
The crown awaits the conquest,
Lead on, O God of might.
